I'll Miss the Stamps

Well, I've known this was coming for a while: the doing away with stamps on a passport.


I was so very excited when I got my first passport stamped upon arriving in London on my way to my college study abroad semester in Italy. There were many years gone by when I almost needed to request additional pages in my passport!


What follows is the somewhat dry (but valuable) text concerning this big security change in European travel.


At E.U. airports, passport stamps are out and fingerprint scans are in


Nearly 30 countries in Europe are requiring biometric scans under the new Entry/Exit System, or EES.


This month (scheduled for OCT 12), the European Union will roll out an automated biometric program for foreign travelers entering nearly 30 countries.


The Entry/Exit System (EES) will replace traditional passport procedures, including the coveted stamp, with facial imaging and fingerprinting.
